Idaho APSE Chapter:  The national office for APSE, the network on employment, has approved Idaho's application for chapter status. This Council-backed organization will promote best practices and expansion of integrated employment including supported, self, and customized employment for people with disabilities. Members of the Board for the Idaho APSE Chapter in Development are: Kelly Keele, Idaho Falls; Carolyn Rudeck, Boise; Valerie Cutshall, Moscow; and Ron Enright, Boise (ex-officio). The organization is seeking new members and has just completed its first newsletter - click here.

Direct Support Professional Training: The Council supports efforts to recruit and retain a qualified, accessible, available workforce of direct support staff. To assist with this, the Council provides funding for projects and programs. In 2003, the Council contracted with the Center on Disabilities and Human Development to survey direct support staff statewide and produce a report of their findings. Click here for the report.

The Council also supports opportunities for training for direct support staff including the annual training conference sponsored by Community Partnerships of Idaho.
For the latest information on this conference click here to get to the CPI website.

The Council is supporting a pilot project, sponsored by the Department of Health and Welfare, to introduce online training for direct care staff and others using the College of Direct Support. For information about this pilot project, click here.

Disability Mentoring Day: is an annual effort of the American Association of People with Disabilities that brings students and other young adults together with employers for informational sessions about career opportunities and one-on-one mentoring with volunteers at public and private places of employment. The form to apply for Council funding for this project is available in MS Word but other formats are available upon request to ron.enright@icdd.idaho.gov

Determined to VOTE!: This is a multi-year training and education initiative of the Council in partnership with Comprehensive Advocacy, Inc., the ADA Task Force, the Idaho Assistive Technology Project, and the League of Women Voters, with support from the Idaho Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Committee of the Idaho Secretary of State's office, www.idahovotes.gov. The intent of Project VOTE! is to increase participation by Idahoans with disabilities and elders in the election process and to increase the awareness among election officials and poll workers about barriers that people face when exercising their right to vote. Youth Leadership Forum History and Overview

person-centered planning project logoCouncil Person-Centered Planning Project
The Council and its partners, the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho and other organizations, are moving forward to make person-centered planning technical assistance and resources available to individuals, families and groups across Idaho. A key focus of the grant will be on unpaid informal supports that are critical to anyone with a disability living a successful life in the community.
The goals of this project are to provide access to person-centered planning for adults with developmental disabilities and families of children with developmental disabilities (particularly those transitioning to adulthood) that 1) allows them to have maximum flexibility and control of their services and supports, 2) recognizes the importance of natural supports to successfully include people with developmental disabilities in Idaho’s communities, 3) assesses the support needs of informal caregivers and natural supports and seeks to address those needs through a combination of community-based information, technical assistance, and consultation, and 4) embeds this model in state regulations and policies.

  • PCP Specialists Now Available!  Thirteen Person-Centered Planning Specialists have just completed training and are available in communities around Idaho to provide in-depth person centered planning services to adults and transition-age youth with developmental disabilities.
